
Global Big Day in Sri Lanka, on the 9th May, was sponsored by Bird and Wildlife Team through its Research & Conservation Fund scheme. Bird watchers participated in the event have been able to record a phenomenal total of 242 species of birds in Sri Lanka including all the 34 Island’s endemic species, in a day!

Members of the Bird and Wildlife Team visited Sinharaja rainforest on the 9th together with a few birdwatchers and managed to record total 71 species including 29 endemics.
Bird and Wildlife Team wish to express their sincere thanks to the officials at the Ratnapura Regional Office and the Sinharaja NHWA Office of the Department of Forest Conservation, and forest guides at Sinharaja NHWA, for their support and co-operation given for the Global Big Day event conducted at Sinharaja rainforest.
